The Social Security Administration (SSA) One of The Most Non-Responsive Governmental Agencies

The SSA has been in existence since 1935. We all support the SSA. According to the AARP, 7 in 10 of those surveyed say that Social Security is one of our government’s most important programs.

But a shortfall in funding is looming large. Nearly everyone, especially elderly (over 65 years old) feel it is absolutely necessary to protect SSA.

But here are two revealing facts about how this program is administered. It takes 39 minutes, the average time, to reach a “live” person at the SSA when calling their national phone number. What is more aggravating for those who are disabled, it takes 220 days on average, for a person to receive a decision regarding disability adjudication. In the Atlanta area, it takes over a year to receive a decision. I have had some of my clients die while waiting for a decision from SSA.

Customer service is horrible at the SSA. Many SSA offices closed during COVID and have not re-opened. That means the SSA personnel are at home, receiving full salary and providing minimal services to those of us who need to access this program.
